Watch The World

The lovely people at Links of London got in touch recently to challenge me to recreate my favourite fashion week look using their new 'Watch the World' tool. So that's basically challenging me to do something that I LOVE so obviously I was all over it. Their tool basically gives you an insight into fashion week across the various cities where it took place by showing you photo's from all aspects of the event. There's backstage pics, street style, catwalk images and all of the good stuff that gives you a really well rounded view of the styling and trends that could be seen at fashion week, from the comfort of your own home! (Heck, you could even check it out in you PJ's if you wanted to)
So originally I was thinking of trying to recreate something I'd seen in the London images but then I thought.. why limit myself? I had a good search through all of the images from all of the different cities and found myself identifying with certain themes. So there was a lot of single colour dressing - something I'm majorly into, but I tend to do it quite a bit with black anyway so wanted to push myself out my comfort zone a bit. There was a lot of high necks, either roll neck jumpers or shirts buttoned all the way up to the top, and a mix of smart/casual in one outfit. I wanted to take inspiration from the themes as a whole rather than one specific outfit, and I wanted to still create something wearable. I think it's important when styling to create something achievable and relevant to the individual in mind (which in this case.. was me.. and you!) So.. this is what I came up with:
I was originally planning to go all out with white shoes as well but they ended up being a slightly different shade of white.. and although that's a look I'd like to experiment with, I feel like that outfit would end up having a different agenda entirely (but keep an eye out for something along these lines coming soon!) So I added these black boots to give a nod to my black nails and kind of tie the whole thing together. They're also 'statement' enough without detracting from the Queen of this outfit, which is of course the most amazing white shirt I've set my eyes on. Ever. I picked it up from Whistles in Selfridges specifically for this challenge as I just felt that it was such a classic item but with a twist. The length is awesome, the pockets are awesome, the sleeves are awesome, the collars and the neck just feel perfect.. Is it weird to get so excited over a white shirt? I don't think so.
I paired the shirt with these distressed white jeans (which you may have seen in my Haul Video or my Style Trial post) with an aim to merge the more formal and casual elements of each item into an outfit that didn't look mismatched.. How do you think I did? I'm actually really happy with the results and feel like I succeeded in pushing myself out of my comfort zone, doing something that I might not have tried if Links of London hadn't contacted me, so thanks guys!

I also noted that in a lot of the images there was a definite 'red smoky eye & nude lip' thing going on. I thought that a red lip would look really good with this outfit as a pop of colour but the dark smoky eye and the nude lip paired so well together that I fell a little bit in love. I think that's one of the great things about wearing such a pure white: everything stands out against it, even a nude lip!
I also ventured to a bit of a grungy location for these photo's. I really wanted the 'pureness' of the white outfit to contrast with its backdrop, but I also wanted it to not feel out of place - hence the ripped jeans and punky boots, I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out, but be sure to let me know what you think!

Have you checked out the Watch the World tool? Let me know your favourite look from fashion week using the tool and if I can, I'll try and recreate that too!

I'd love you to tweet me (@allyinblunder) and let me know what you think of this post! Don't forget to tag @Links_of_London too!

  3. Really love this look! Like actually adore it. And I think you've nailed it with the black boots and nails for a bit of contrast. I used the Watch the World tool and I love these Derek Lam neutrals from NYFW - https://twitter.com/DerekLamNYC/status/567034352299941888/photo/1.
